The honest guide to GLP-1 side effects

Medically reviewed by the Longevix clinical team  ·  July 1, 2026

Most GLP-1 side effects are gastrointestinal and most appear in the days following a dose increase rather than continuously.

Nausea is the most common. It typically peaks in the first forty-eight hours after an increase and settles as your body adapts. Smaller meals, avoiding high-fat food, and staying hydrated all help meaningfully.

Constipation is nearly as common and responds to fibre, fluid and movement. Tell your provider if it persists rather than enduring it, because there are simple additions that resolve it.

Losing weight quickly without adequate protein and resistance training costs you muscle as well as fat. This is the most underdiscussed risk of GLP-1 therapy and the easiest to prevent.

Call your provider promptly for severe abdominal pain radiating to the back, persistent vomiting, or signs of gallbladder trouble. These are uncommon but they matter.
